Alma continues to weave sustainability into its DNA. Always finding ways to reduce the amount of waste, reuse products, and recycle. Purchasing guidelines and policies help us sustain the social, economic and environmental needs of future generations.
Cleaning products used at Alma are EcoLogo and/or Green seal certified.The University of Calgary is currently developing a Green Cleaning Guideline which will address the sustainability requirements for cleaning products used on the campus. This guideline will require all cleaning products to comply with Green Seal GS-37 or the applicable Environmental Choice standard.
Bistro Alma's food purchasing policy includes promoting local, seasonal produce and products, as available in the regional food system. Seafood is currently purchased according to sustainable standards. All coffees, teas, and chocolate offered at Bistro Alma are certified Fair Trade as of February 2013.
Goods sold on at the Corner Store come from artisans who work in safe environments and receive fair wages.
Green Key Eco-Rating Program
Hotel Alma is a proud participant in the Green Key Eco-Rating Program and achieved a 4 Green Key rating in 2013.
A hotel that has shown national industry leadership and commitment to protecting the environment through wide ranging policies and practices. Mature programs that involve management, employees, guests, and the public have shown substantial and measurable results.
The Green Key Eco-Rating Program is a graduated rating system designed to recognize hotels, motels and resorts that are committed to improving their environmental and fiscal performance.
The program is administered by Green Key Global. They are a leading environmental certification body whose suite of industry standard programs and resources has been designed specifically for the lodging and meetings industries. They have been evaluating and certifying properties in North America and beyond on the scope of their sustainable initiatives.
Clean the World Foundation
Hotel Alma is a proud participant of Clean the World Foundation.
Clean the World collects and recycles soap and shampoo products discarded by the hospitality industry, and distributes these and other donated hygiene products to impoverished countries around the world. Part of their mission is to prevent the millions of deaths caused by hygiene-related illnesses everyday.
